British Values

At The Prince of Wales School and The Prince of Wales Pre-School we prepare children for life in modern Britain and ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed and lived out through the ethos and work of our school.

The British Values are:

Democracy
Rule of Law
Individual Liberty
Tolerance (of different cultures and religions)
Mutual Respect

All curriculum areas provide a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts.

In particular, RE and PSHE provide opportunities to deepen and develop understanding.

We encourage our children to be creative, unique, open-minded and independent individuals, respectful of themselves and of others in our school, our local community and the wider world.

We aim to nurture our children on their journey through life so they can grow into safe, caring, democratic, responsible and tolerant adults who make a positive difference to British Society and to the world.

We recently had the incredible privilege of welcoming Edward Morello, MP for West Dorset, to The Prince of Wales School as part of UK Parliament Week!

Edward met with our Year Four pupils and School Council members, who asked him some brilliant questions, including:

How long have you been a Member of Parliament?
Why did you decide to become a Member of Parliament?
How did you become a Member of Parliament?
What is the hardest decision you have had to make in Parliament?
How often do you go to Parliament (Westminster)?
What happens if there is a disagreement in Parliament?
What was your favourite lesson at school?

Our pupils were inspired by Edward’s insights and stories, sparking curiosity and deepening their understanding of how Parliament shapes our country. The thoughtful questions from our School Council showed just how engaged and inquisitive our young learners are.

A huge thank you to Edward for taking the time to visit and for sharing his passion for democracy with us. This memorable experience will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on our pupils!
